Requirements
Standard, inexpensive parts. Only the network box is supported: it connects by Ethernet to any router, including a 4G or 5G router.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Build server | Debian 11/12 or Ubuntu 22.04+. A small VM is enough. Keep it private, ideally reachable only from your office or VPN. |
| Software | Python 3.9 or newer, python3-cryptography, age for encrypted backups and openssh-client for deployment. |
| Per customer | One Debian 12/13 KVM VPS with a fixed public IPv4 address and root SSH access. 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM and 10 GB disk is enough for a typical customer. A DNS name is recommended. |
| Per site: computer | Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny (for example M70q, M710q, M720q, M920q or newer), 4 GB RAM or more, SSD of 64 GB or more. Any x86-64 PC with the same two-port layout works. |
| Per site: adapter | USB 3.0 gigabit Ethernet adapter with an in-kernel Debian driver, such as Realtek RTL8153 or ASIX AX88179. |
| Per site: network | A router with internet access and DHCP. The camera network must use a different address range than the router’s LAN. |
| Install media | USB stick of 8 GB or more, the official Debian netinst image, a monitor and a keyboard for the build. |
| Recommended | A small UPS at the site, labels for the IN and OUT cables, and a printed box build record. |
Hardware is not included. IPC Terminal is the software and scripts. You buy the ThinkCentre, adapter and VPS from the vendors you prefer.
Box ports
| Port | Hardware | Connects to |
|---|---|---|
| IN (uplink) | The built-in Ethernet port | A LAN port of the customer’s router. Internet access and the tunnel. |
| OUT (cameras) | The USB Ethernet adapter | The NVR, PoE switch or cameras. The box is the DHCP server and has the address ending in .1. |
