Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the product, the price and the setup.
What is IPC Terminal?
IPC Terminal is a build server tool, ipc-build, that creates the scripts and guides for private remote access to camera networks. It generates a script for each customer’s server and for each on-site box, and keeps customers, sites, people and secrets in one database.
How much does it cost?
It costs €40 as a one-time fee, including one year of updates. There is no subscription.
What happens after the first year?
The version you have keeps working. Updates released during your first year are included. For anything after that, write to service@ipcterminal.com.
Who is it for?
Installers and cloud companies that manage camera access for several customers. A single site works too.
Do I need to buy hardware from you?
No. You build the box yourself from a Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny (or any two-port x86-64 PC), a USB Ethernet adapter and the official Debian installer. There is no ready-made image to trust or update.
How do viewers watch the cameras?
Viewers and admins connect with plain WireGuard. Each person creates a key on their device and gives you only the public key. They reach the camera or recorder at its tunnel address.
Can the cameras reach the internet?
No. The box gives cameras a private network without gateway or DNS, and the firewall only allows the tunnel to reach it.
Is there a cellular version?
No. Only the network box is supported. It connects by Ethernet to any router, including a 4G or 5G router.
What happens when the power goes out?
The box starts by itself when power returns, and the tunnel comes back without anyone logging in. The guide includes a power-loss test so you can prove it before you hand over.
Are the secrets safe?
Secrets in the database are encrypted with a master key kept in a separate environment file. The activity log is hash-chained so changes to old entries can be detected. Back up the environment file separately and offline: without the key, stored secrets cannot be recovered.
What do I need on the build server?
Debian 11/12 or Ubuntu 22.04+, Python 3.9+, the python3-cryptography package, age for encrypted backups and openssh-client for deployment.
